Foodie Destination of the Week |
The restaurant scene in greater Greenville has exploded off the past decade with new restaurants springing up here and there. Downtown Greenville alone has brought an array of tasty cuisines to pick from which makes it a great place for anyone who wants to try different culinary experiences. This week, we’ll highlight one of the best places to dine and experience Greenville’s gastronomic delights.
Otto Izakaya
Japanese inspired gastropub expanded its footprint into the South Main area last year further expanding the neighborhood area’s food options.
The restaurant features small, shareable plates of Japanese bar food and just as Izakaya is a term that describes where you go in Japan to drink sake, you can definitely enjoy happy hours in Izakaya. They open late in the afternoon and stay open late.
The popular restaurant is known for its mixture of Asian fares such as hand-cut fries, noodles, spareribs, and sushi offerings. Their drinks include domestic and Asian beer, wine and sake list. It is impossible not to be tempted to taste anything out of their extensive menu. Be prepared, as you can eat everything you ask for until you can’t eat anymore.
This is a great place to satisfy your sushi cravings plus the location is in a great part of town and the restaurant itself is inviting, though not as big as their Woodruff location. To many, this is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants in downtown Greenville. You should book a reservation in advance.

Greenville’s Art District: The Village of West Greenville
What better way to celebrate Labor Day than to take talk a walk and visit Greenville’s art district: The Village of West Greenville. In the past few years, we saw how this part of downtown Greenville developed and thrive with hopeful entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Thanks to a master plan designed to make the area more attractive to locals and visitors, the old textile mill village and childhood home of Shoeless Joe Jackson is emerging with a heavy emphasis on the arts, food, and shopping. There are over 60 businesses right now in the Village of West Greenville from galleries to restaurants and artists finding their way here. The best among them include The Anchorage, GB&D, and Greenville Center for the Creative Arts. Add a new business that has recently opened: The Mailroom Barber & Shop, The Village of West Greenville has been transformed into an arts community, so much so Thrillist called it out as one of America’s 12 neighborhoods “that are about to get crazy popular.”
