    Brief History of Boiling Springs, SC

    Boiling Springs has gotten its name because of a small spring that would shoot water into the air to up to 6 feet. It served as the focus of a small Upstate resort community during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries until the geyser diminished over the years. In the early 1900s, the spring also was a popular place for farmers to stop and water their horses on their way to and from the market. The spring eventually had become a shallow barely bubbling stream in the mid-1900s.

    Located about 30 miles northeast of Greenville SC, Boiling Springs is a census-designated place in Spartanburg County. It has a total land mass of 6.8 sq. miles and a population of 8,219 at the 2010 census.
