A Brief History
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Chick Springs, a mineral spring, was located in the present-day Taylors. This spring served as the focus of a small Upstate resort community and attracted hundreds of visitors. The local economy thrived most especially when the railroad had reached the Upstate. Other industries also thrived in the area, especially milling. Taylors Southern Bleachery was a catalyst for growth in Taylors and became a critical part of the industry and Taylors’ culture before it closed in 1965.
