The School District of Pickens County (SDPC) is an above average, county-wide school system serving the Pickens County communities including Easley, Pickens, Dacusville, Six Mile, Liberty, Clemson, and Pendleton with 16,366 students in grades PK, K-12 enrolled in 24 schools as of the 2016-17 School year. There are 14 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, four4 high schools, and a state-of-the-art Career and Technology Center. It is the 12th largest school district in South Carolina. The student ratio in this district is 16 to 1. According to state test scores, 55% of students are at least proficient in math and 43% in reading. SDPC students attend schools based primarily on the geographic location of their homes.
The School District of Pickens County will transform two of its schools into theme-based magnet schools in 2018. Central Elementary School will become the Central Academy of the Arts and McKissick Elementary School will become the McKissick Academy of Science & Technology. These two schools were chosen from the district-wide School Choice Survey taken by parents, community, and staff members. The magnet schools aim to improve teaching and learning, addressing diversity, and addressing school capacity through school choice options.
